Clueless

A few months back I had the idea of making slave earrings because  I realized I haven't seen anyone selling those locally . As much as I don't feel comfortable calling it that, there's no other name for it, is there? If there is then please educate me, until then I shall call it slave earrings.  So one trip to the store I bought earring clip-on's which I thought I could use as the cuff since I couldn't find any that resembled those I saw on the images I have. But I had a bazaar then that I needed to prepare for so experimenting was lowest on my priority list. I've made some earrings that I thought would look great as slave earrings but when I was figuring out how to put on the clip-on earring cuffs, it looked awkward, not to mention painful on the ear. I was starting to suspect it's not even for the purpose I bought it for! So as much as I wanted to debut my new earring line I had to forego that idea since I didn't have time to go find earring cuffs I

The Lady Killer

THE LADY KILLER by PAIZLEY STONE PLOT: Detective Laura Peterson is a tough cop, well respected for doing a good job of taking the scumbags off the streets. But a serial killer victimizing women is proving to be a hard case to break. Along with her team, she follows evidence that has been left on purpose by the psychopath, luring them in his sick game. But just when she thought she was hot on his trails, she realizes she's being stalked. And may very well be the next victim. Although it may seem to be just another one of those serials, the twist in the end will surely make up for the typical storyline.  The protagonist reminds me of both Maria Bello's character in the T.V. show, Prime Suspect , and Stana Katic of Castle . She is a forty something detective in a male dominated work, but well respected and accomplished. But she's not feminine though,  which shows her maturity, a woman free from fickle thoughts.  T here were only about two times, I think, wher

The One You Love

THE ONE YOU LOVE by PAUL PILKINGTON PLOT: Emma Holden was on her hen party when her world fell apart. She finds out not only has her fiance gone, but his brother is also on their bathroom floor battered, unconscious and barely alive. As she does some investigating of her own she's slowly convinced that her fiance is innocent and in danger. With a stalker watching her every move, she must race against time to save him. But will she be able to handle the dark secret her family keeps?  Another one of those books that I almost didn't read because of the cover. Thank God the bookworm in me fought to read this. The cover isn't appealing but the story is actually quite good.  I may be a bit biased about books from England just because I don't understand some of the words and expressions. And I have this unconscious irritating habit of reading in my mind with a  British  accent. It can get very tiring. Good thing that I opened this book without knowing where the settin

A Purse To Die For

A PURSE TO DIE FOR by MELODIE CAMPBELL and CYNTHIA ST-PIERRE PLOT: A television celebrity and fashionista Gina Monroe returns to her hometown to attend her grandmother's funeral. After the reading of the will didn't turn out well for some, the death itself becomes suspicious. Then a fashionable woman's dead body is found on their backyard. This brings the police in and another murder occurs.   Novellas, or chick lits, is like a commercial break from all the more serious books I usually read. They're just fun distractions that's sure to leave you feeling giddy or kilig (romantic thrill). And to be honest the cute and chic book covers is what sells it.  Although I don't expect much from these kinds of books because they're feel good books and not cerebral, there are still those that leaves you less than amused. If you think the murders will revolve around the designer purse somehow, you're in for some disappointment. I got this book for free

Mind Games

MIND GAMES by CLAUDE BOUCHARD PLOT: Another serial killer is on the loose. This time the killings are vicious and sexual. The police are again at a loss for what kind of criminal they are looking for. They ask a profile for the killer from a psychiatrist, but still turn up empty handed as the killer continues with his sex slayings.  Chris Barry offers his assistance and with his hacking prowess was able to piece together the mind of a very shattered soul. This book is by far the best out of the three I've read from Bouchard. Although details of any sexual crime makes me nauseous, I was taken aback by how vivid his description  was  of the sexual violence that it bothered me for days when I remember it.  From the previous two novels I read, I didn't expect to get this from him. The story telling was fluid. Although it was obvious from the first few chapters who the killer was, it was still gripping. This is a story that hopefully doesn't and isn't ha

The Consultant

THE CONSULTANT by CLAUDE BOUCHARD PLOT:  After helping the police with the Vigilante case, Chris Barry is invited to join a clandestine government agency. His first  assignment finds him at a shipping firm to investigate a possible murder. With his skills he soon finds out that the firm is being used to import drugs. When his cover is blown the criminals make it personal which leaves him no choice but to show them what his skills really are. Still high from his first book I attacked this with much expectation. Although it's nice to see the friendship and love shown between the couples and their friends, this is after all a crime novel. I find this too mild, a.k.a. bland.  The real action begins only when the bad guys take things personal. You have to read the book. I don't want to spoil what 'taking things personal' mean for this book. The second book gives us the details of Chris Barry's and his wife's background. I think it was written

RUBY - Stone of Fire and Passion

BIRTHMONTH: July When we think love, vivacity and passion, the color red immediately comes to mind, because red is the color of love. It radiates warmth and a strong sense of vitality. The red of the ruby is incomparable: warm and fiery, it was not for no reason that the name 'ruby' was derived from the Latin word 'rubens', meaning 'red'. Two magical elements are associated with the symbolism of this color: fire and blood which implies warmth and life. The ruby is the best gemstone to express powerful feelings because ruby-red itself is an absolutely undiluted, hot, passionate, powerful color. Instead of symbolizing calm, controlled affection, a ring set with a precious ruby bears witness to that passionate, unbridled love that people can feel for each other. MYTHS & LEGENDS Ruby has accumulated a host of legends over the centuries. People in India believed that rubies enabled their owners to live in peace with their enemies. In Burma (a ruby source

The Vigilante

THE VIGILANTE by CLAUDE BOUCHARD THE PLOT:  The first installment from his Vigilante Series, this book is about a serial killer out to get the scum of Montreal. From obvious sins like drugs and gang activities to past crimes committed and domestic violence, The Vigilante, as he's called, shows no mercy. He stalks his prey and carries out his crimes with precision leaving no evidence behind making it hard for the police to catch him.  It doesn't help that the general public is rooting for the killer too because he is targeting the bad guys. The Vigilante sends out untraceable messages through the internet and the police asks the help of a computer executive to track down the killer. But the killer seems to be too intelligent even for the I.T. guys.  As an avid Criminal Minds fan, I like 'serial killer' themes which is why I got the book. I'm used to reading Ludlum and Clancy novels so my expectations weren'

My Polymer Fling

My affair with polymer was shortlived. It wasn't because we didn't like each other, only we didn't get along very well. He was unpredictable and I was impatient. Used to getting the results I wanted, he ended up in need of refinement. It all started with a purchase online. The seller was nice and accomodating, but wasn't able to deliver the goods according to my specifications. Actually did the one thing I specifically said I didn't want. I guess she just doesn't work well with customizations because the other accessory I bought from her was very pretty. Putting sticker paper on it. Really? After I specifically said I didn't want stickers. This ones a beauty. Bought as a gift for my sister. Call me obsessive or controlling but I decided to do it myself. As the old saying goes: If you want something done properly, better do it yourself.  So despite time constraints I scoured Manila and Cubao and then coming up empty, turned frustratingly  to the ne

Bead Bangle

You may be wondering why I would give away this pattern for free when I can sell it. Well,  I'm really not so good with giving (and taking) written instructions. So to be fair, I only sell patterns that I can give accurate instructions on.  I rely mostly on pictures, I find them easier to follow. So hopefully the images I included helps too if my written instructions become too confusing. I had to use a dark background so the threads would show.  1.       Start with the basic netting technique. String in 147 pieces of seed beads. Pass the thread through the 6th bead from the last. 2.      String 5 beads then pass through the sixth bead from the previous row, repeat to the end. 3.      Leave 6 beads at the tail. String 8 beads then pass thread through fourth bead from previous row. Repeat until you have a total of 9 rows. 4.      String 8 beads then pass the thread through the 6th bead and then pass it through the row you've just finished to ensure the bangle i

The Calendar

Recently there have been talks about the December 2012 Doomsday, much like the doomsday prediction in 1999. This is according to the Mayan Calendar which ends December 21, 2012. There is also a rumor(?) of a planetary alignment on this day which will bring 3 days of darkness. People's imagination, thanks to Hollywood films, run wild with images from movies of disasters of massive proportions! Tidal waves, earthquakes, planetary collisions. But can we really blame them? With all the calamities we've been having lately, from climate change to the global  financial crisis.  With what we know of how the moon and sun affects the earth it is possible for all these to happen. But why dwell on the morbid? Like all predictions, they are just that, a forecast of a future event that has no absolute certainty. After all, the Mayan prophesy said it would be a transformation not an eradication of the human populace. Whether or not the transformation or the Spiritual enlightenment com

Places To Go

Lately I've been hooked on Pinterest like crazy. And for crafters like me, the more time you spend on the computer is precious time wasted. Or so it feels. But the pictures on this website are just wow! I don't travel much, I'm one of those people who don't really like going out. But to see these beautiful places makes me want to leave my comfort zone and experience them. The pictures of course look photoshopped but still makes one curious how the real thing looks like. I literally have to peel myself away from the computer to stop browsing all these beautiful places!  Many of them have found their way into my bucket list. Hopefully though, when I can finally travel to these places they'd still be there, unspoiled by climate change and humans.

Top 5: Love the Rainy Season

It's been raining like crazy the whole month it seems. I exaggerate ofcourse, but it's been awhile since we last saw some sunshine. Oh the monsoon season.. And it's only August! Hopefully this is the worst of it.  When I was still in school I used to love it when it rained. Back then a little rain makes a puddle, not an ankle-deep flood. Heavy rains made for knee-deep floods but people didn't have to evacuate their homes for fear of flash floods. I'm not old enough to be saying " back then.." but the weather has changed so drastically that yes, my "back then" is totally different from what it is now. But I still remember the reasons why I love the rainy season because it hasn't really been that long ago. My reason Number One :  Because there was a 50-50 percent chance of getting stuck under the same shed with my crush. Being in such close proximity to that person without looking suspicious? Admit it, the rain's always a great e

SAPPHIRE - Stone of Destiny

BIRTHMONTH: September We associate this color with feelings of sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty: feelings which belong to qualities that prove their worth in the long term – feelings in which it is not so much effervescent passion that is to the fore, but rather composure, mutual understanding and indestructible trust. The sapphire symbolizes loyalty, but at the same time it gives expression to people's love and longing, which make it a great stone for engagement rings. Sapphire is said to be the wisdom stone, stimulating concentration, enhancing creativity and promoting purity and depth of thought. It is believed to focus and calm the mind as well as remove unwanted thoughts, depression and mental tension. It is known as the stone of new love and commitment and is claimed to be useful in encouraging faithfulness and loyalty. Sapphire is thought to bring peace of mind, serenity and prosperity. MYTHS & LEGENDS  The ancient Persians believed that the earth r

Beaded Earrings

Lately I've been obsessed with making earrings. I previously thought they weren't challenging enough but then I started getting inquiries about them and thought, why not give it a try. So to make it more challenging, instead of just wiring I decided to try beading techniques and boy was I wrong about holding back on those earrings!  What I was used to making. And sometimes wiring it. Beading or weaving headbands and necklaces are time consuming, usually taking 4-5 days to finish, and for someone with very low E.Q., the wait is often frustrating. But to do the techniques I love and finish the project in a day?  Well, I think I'll be making a lot of earrings now.  I made 3 pairs in 6-7 hours. The design possibilities are endless! Although it does take a lot of patience when the design I have in mind doesn't work. Like for this earring, I had an idea of the last layer(red coral beads) perfectly aligned. But it wouldn't stay flat, it kept crinkli

Birthstones

Buying gifts for some people can be very hard, especially if you don't really know them that well or if they seem to have everything. But one easy gift for the ladies are jewelry and if it's their birthday, what better present than a jewelry with their birthstone on it?  But pinning down their zodiac sign can be tricky with the signs changing on certain dates. So here is a list of the birthstone for each month and also your standard zodiac signs.  Birthstone Month January Birthstone Modern birthstone:   garnet Zodiac gemstone for Capricorn :   ruby February Birthstone Modern birthstone:   amethyst Zodiac gemstone for Aquarius :   garnet March Birthstone Modern birthstone:   aquamarine Zodiac gemstone for Pisces :   amethyst April Birthstone Modern birthstone:   diamond Zodiac gemstone for Aries :   bloodstone May Birthstone Modern birthstone:   emerald Zodiac gemstone for Taurus :   sapphire June Birthstone Modern birthstone:
