THE LADY KILLER by PAIZLEY STONE
PLOT: Detective Laura Peterson is a tough cop, well respected for doing a good job of taking the scumbags off the streets. But a serial killer victimizing women is proving to be a hard case to break. Along with her team, she follows evidence that has been left on purpose by the psychopath, luring them in his sick game. But just when she thought she was hot on his trails, she realizes she's being stalked. And may very well be the next victim.
Although it may seem to be just another one of those serials, the twist in the end will surely make up for the typical storyline. The protagonist reminds me of both Maria Bello's character in the T.V. show, Prime Suspect, and Stana Katic of Castle.
She is a forty something detective in a male dominated work, but well respected and accomplished. But she's not feminine though, which shows her maturity, a woman free from fickle thoughts. There were only about two times, I think, where she displayed any feminine emotions. I can't quite decide though if that's good or not. Because if she were any more feminine this book might turn into a romance rather than a mystery thriller. So if you like your women sleuths to be more girly then this will disappoint you.
The other characters were well written too, their show of concern over Laura doesn't feel patronizing at all. The M.E. though is my most favorite of all. Their fun banter is always something to look forward to. The author's inclusion of her ex-boyfriends cheating habits and preference is a great way of putting AIDS in peoples awareness. Sorry, if you consider that tidbit a spoiler. You'll lose some sleep wanting to finish this book right away. But the ending will definitely not be what you thought it would be.
VERDICT: READ IT!
