OPAL - Symbol of Hope, Purity & Truth

BIRTHMONTH: October For ages people have believed in the healing power of Opal. It is reported to be able to solve depressions and to help its wearer find the true and real love. Opals are supposed to further enhance the positive characteristics for people born under the zodiac sign of Cancer.    While some people believe it is unlucky for people not born in October to wear opal, the gemstone has actually long been valued as a stone of luck and magic. Opal is also an alternative birthstone for April babies.  The fantastic color play of Opal reflects changing emotions and moods of people. Fire and water, the sparkling images of Boulder Opal, the vivid light flashes of Black Opal or the soft shine of Milk Opal – striking contrasts characterize the colorful world of this fascinating gemstone. Maybe this is the reason why it depends on our daily mood which Opal we prefer. Opals are like human emotions: you always experience them different and anew. MYTHS & LEGENDS Numerous lege

JASPER - The Supreme Nurturer

BIRTHMONTH: March From the Greek word iaspi meaning “spotted stone”. Considered as a powerful healing stone that gives a sense of well-being and enables one to be more present in the physical body and conscious of Nature and one’s surroundings. Believed to protect and absorb negative energy. Brecciated Jasper from  https://www.crystalhealingforwomen.com/brecciated-jasper-bracelet/ LEGENDS & MYTHS  According to Norse legend, the magic sword of Siegfried the dragon slayer was inlaid with this gemstone. Egyptians believed the stone to be associated with Isis and was carved into amulets for the dead. There is also speculation it was actually red jasper (not ruby) that adorned the sacred breastplate of Aaron. ABOUT THE STONE Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any color stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash

BLOODSTONE - Symbol of Justice

BIRTHMONTH: March Also called heliotrope by the Greeks and was thought to bring change, the bloodstone has been used as an amulet to protect against the evil eye. It was treasured in ancient times and served for a long time as the birthstone for March. Dubbed as the martyr's stone as medieval Christians often used bloodstone to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs. A beautiful example of carved bloodstone with the seal of the German Emperor Rudolf II can be seen at the Louvre in Paris. The bloodstone was used to stop bleeding especially nosebleeds.  Even today, finely pulverized bloodstone is used as a medicine and aphrodisiac in India. Perhaps that explains why it is now rather difficult to find fine specimens of bloodstone on the market. Tumbled Bloodstone from LadiesCrystals LEGENDS and MYTHS According to the legend, it was first formed when drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross.  Jasper was a favorite gem in the anc

Elastics No More

Over the years I've been asked to repair and revamp broken accessories and jewelries by family and friends. One recurring problem are bracelets with elastic nylon.    But I've made it my personal policy not to use elastic nylons anymore.  Not since a bracelet I made snapped when I was out, and beads flew all over the place. It was embarrassing, but the first thing that came to mind were the ones I sold. Did they snap on my clients too?! I was mortified at the thought! See, anything stretchable loses their elasticity sooner or later, and they go brittle. And you just don't know when these things will snap, how can you anticipate something like that, right? So here are other ways to make bracelets without using those elastic/stretchable nylons. Charm bracelets: very feminine and easy to make. Lobster Claw Clasp: which I used for the charm bracelet from the previous picture. Tube Clasp: if you're making a multi-strand bracelet. Screw Clasp

How To Choose Earrings

Due to the fact that they are close to the face, earrings must compliment one’s face shape. There are also several basic styles that can be worn from day to evening and are appropriate for a variety of clothing options and occasions. But how do you tell which earring type compliments your face? First, i dentify your face shape to decide what style of earrings will compliment your face best. Consider what will enhance your good features. Take into consideration the cut and color of your hair, your skin tone, your body size and especially the clothes you’re wearing.  BASIC SHAPES Other Shapes Round Face Shape If your face is round then lean, long and angular curved lines will elongate and add a little angle to your face. You can wear drop earrings in dangles, ovals and oblongs. Square and rectangular earrings are also good options, as are angular earrings. It’s best to avoid small studs, hoops and chunky large earrings. Ova

Bold Pieces

It’s summer and shorts are everywhere. But how do you set yourself apart from all the women walking around in the same outfit as yours? Accessories.  If you like bold accessories, wear a chunky bracelet or cuff, a long necklace with pendant or a short necklace with a big pendant that falls on your derrier. Make sure to wear one bold piece at a time, though.

My Climate Change Must Haves

Climate change is truly making itself felt this summer. The weather, in a day, goes from sweat and stroke inducing heat to cool-cold breeze and rainshowers. Honestly, I find going out frustrating these days because you don't know whether to dress for summer or cover up. I know how shallow you must think I am, but admit it, you find yourself staring in your closet and then looking out the window wondering what to wear at least once a week, if not every day! Well, these are the times I feel apathetic and end up in jeans and shirt and putting on a cardigan or light jacket and disappear in a sea of similarly dressed zombies. And as much as I love my shorts, I often find myself reaching for my jeans because, as a tropical fish, I do get cold easy and pants are the more practical choice. But for some reason, it makes me feel sloppy and dull. Although I'm not too sure about the saying "The clothes make the man", I believe that clothes say a lot about us a
